Nouns and Verbs – Vocabulary Builder level 1

Our popular Nouns and verbs pack provides an extensive bank of colourful images of the most common nouns and verbs in early language development, based on Anne Locke’s Living Language Programme. The pack also contains an extensive range of instructions for different uses for this resource –  from picture-matching games to beanbag games and category tasks.

The nouns and verbs pictures are grouped by category (many of which can be linked to curriculum topics) and can be used in a variety of ways to achieve a wide range of therapy targets, including:

• an understanding of language ‘Where’s the ..?’
• expressive language ‘What is this called?’
• semantic skills ‘Which one would you see in your kitchen?’
• attention and listening ‘Give me the apple and the banana.’
• signing.

Speech and language therapists and teaching staff may also find the pictures useful when making individualised visual schedules or communication books.

The pack follows the developmental order of vocabulary development outlined in Anne Locke’s ‘Living Language’. Words are labelled. The pack also includes an alphabetical checklist of all the words illustrated. This can be used by speech and language therapists and practitioners to establish a baseline of vocabulary use, monitor progress and inform therapy targets.

The numerous ways in which the pictures in this pack can be used to help extend a child’s vocabulary are explained. These include picture matching; find the picture games; posting game; miming action games; fishing games; memory games; the function game.
