Supporting Adults with Communication Impairment

This supporting adults resource pack is designed for professionals assisting individuals with communication difficulties in making decisions about their care, home circumstances, and hospital treatment. It supports best practices under the Mental Capacity Act (2005).
Developed by speech and language therapists Jodi Allen and Hayley Bryer, the prototype of this pack earned the Sigmund Sternberg Award for Clinical Innovation from the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists in 2011. Black Sheep Press collaborated to develop further and publish this comprehensive resource.

This Supporting Adults pack is the result. It is intended for professionals who assist people with communication impairments in making their own decisions.

This Supporting Adults pack contains supported communication ideas and materials to facilitate assessments of decision-making capacity. It is designed for use in the hospital setting by health care professionals with adults who have communication impairment. The design and content of the pack are based on our extensive professional experience in supporting such individuals.
