/f/ initial Sound Games – for sound production (Team Licence)

Description

Most children who are working on speech sounds require a high level of repetition and reinforcement to consolidate their target sound into connected speech. This resource aims to support children to do this through fun and engaging sound games. This pack focuses on /f/ initial sound and barrier games.

Its aim is to support children to ‘bridge the gap’ between using the new sound in formal, highly-structured directed therapy sessions, and move towards consistent use during conversation. Each pack comes with clear instructions which makes it highly suitable for school and/or home programmes of work.

The packs can be used in one-to-one or group settings, and are suitable for children between the ages of 4 and 7 years.

The /f/ initial sound games pack consists of:

  • Nine pages of game instructions, detailing fourteen separate /f/ initial sound games.
  • A 2 page set of colour pictures that have at least two examples of the target sound in the initial position. These can be used in a wide range of sound games.

Sheet 1 – pictures of a fox character to elicit slightly simpler target sentences. Pictures include Fat fox with lots of food/fox on a fence/fast fox (running across a field)/fox with feathers in his fur/falling fox/fox near a fire/five foxes … two near and three far away/fox playing football.

Sheet 2 – will elicit more complex sentences and have a higher number
of words beginning with the target sound. Pictures include: Fiona has fish fingers, chips and a fork/four fairies by a fountain/Phoebe has a photo of her family on her phone/Finn feeding his fish/Philip has filthy face and fingers/a fire engine … a fire in a forest/Fern has finished her fizzy drink/furry feet.

  • Four black and white barrier games. Barrier games provide immediate feedback to the ‘speaker’ on how clear their instruction has been to the ‘listener’. Because the sheets are visual and pre-prepared, this eliminates the need for the child to read.  Simple barriers can be made by standing folders on end and placing them between members of the group.
  • A dice counter and colour action board game
  • A2 page colour categories game
  • Black and white duplicate pictures

Additional packs that focus on /f/ in the initial position include: /f/ initial sound stories and /f/ initial consonant worksheet
