Days of the Week, Concepts

Description

The packs in our popular Concepts In Pictures series provide teaching techniques, activities and games to help children learn a range of key concepts – in this case ‘”Days of the Week” (now available in full colour).

The understanding and use of concepts is an important area of language development – knowledge of concepts is essential for a child to be able to understand routines, follow instructions, learn new vocabulary and support literacy and numeracy skills.

The colourful, illustrated worksheets can be used in one to one or small group settings with children of a wide age and ability range.  They are suitable to be used by speech and language therapists and teaching staff and, because each activity is accompanied by clear instructions, they are also ideal for home programmes of work.

The Concepts in Pictures series from Black Sheep Press offers structured teaching techniques, activities, and games designed to help children learn a wide range of key concepts. Our full colour “Days of the Week Concepts” pack contains 13 pages of activities based around the characters Mickey Mobile and Katie Calendar. In addition, full instructions are included along with ideas for extension activities. It is recommended that, when a new concept is introduced, a ‘hands on’, concrete approach should always be the initial teaching method. Some children will require a higher level of repetition and reinforcement to fully establish the schemata for the word and so our Days of the Week concepts pack provides these additional activities.

Join Mickey Mobile and Katie Calendar as we learn together about the days of the week:

  • Funny rhymes and activities to help you remember the days of the week.
  • Can you say what you do on each of the days of the week
  • We meet Bailey on his holidays. What did he do on each of the days of the week?
  • We can use different ‘day’ words to talk about when something happens. Introducing ‘today’, ‘tomorrow’ and ‘yesterday’. What did Mickey Mobile do today, yesterday, and what will he do tomorrow.
  • Eight colourful 3-part sequences are included to practice using today, yesterday and tomorrow to explain what is happening. Also particularly useful for children who experience difficulties with sequencing and ordering events. For example,
Yesterday: We packed our clothes. Today: We went on holiday. Tomorrow: We will go to the beach.
Yesterday: The pig cut his foot.Today: It is very sore. Tomorrow: The vet will come and make it better.
