Our popular Sound Stories series is designed for children who have difficulties with sound production. Each Sound Stories pack contains two attractive and fully illustrated stories, colouring activities and a series of questions which offer high frequency words, featuring a specific phoneme in initial position.

This pack features /s/ initial sound stories for early speech development. These fun and easy stories are designed to allow children to practice the /s/ initial and provide a high frequency of targeted speech sounds for focused auditory stimulation and sound production work. Each story includes a colouring activity and a set of questions related to the story to facilitate sound production at a conversational level.

The Sound Stories series is designed for children with sound production difficulties. This /s/ Initial Sound Stories pack includes narratives for sound production to develop the /s/ initial sound. Other editions include /f/,/ch/,/t/, /k/, /l/ , /sh/ initial phonemes, /l/ and /s/ clusters and /s,/f/,/t/, /k/ and /p/ final.

How to Use This Resource

/s/ Initial Sound Stories are designed to enhance phonemic awareness and sound production and so teachers will find this product useful to supplement phonics interventions.

Read and enjoy the story together, pointing out details in the illustrations.

- Pick out words from the story that begin with /s/ and say them together.
- Have a competition to see how many words you can find in an individual picture that begins with /s/.
- Encourage the child to name items independently.
- Use the colouring activity and questions that accompany each story to encourage sound production.
- For children in the later stages of therapy who are attempting to correctly produce words at sentence level, encourage them to carry out a whole story retelling. You may wish to make an additional copy of the story and to cut the illustrations into individual pictures which can be laid out, one at a time.

Story one: Sita and Sunil at the seaside – On a sunny Saturday morning in summer Sita and Sunil go to the seaside. They meet a greedy seagull who steals Sunil’s sun hat. With the help of his sandwich, Sunil manages to retrieve his hat!
Story two: Sid the sea monster’s birthday – Sid the sea monster was six years old. Find out how he celebrates in style in this charming little story. What will Sally the Seal buy a sea monster for his sixth birthday?
Four pages of extension activities comprised of a colouring activity and a set of questions related to each story.
Black and white duplicate stories.
