A pack of activities and ideas for children who require a staged approach to develop their understanding of language and their expressive skills. The development of children’s communication skills through play is at the core of all language teaching.
Parents, Early Years Practitioners and Speech and Language Therapists have a wide range of opportunities to create language‑enriched play using real objects, action games, toys and symbolic play materials.
While toy/object play should always be the prime focus, this pack of materials provides an additional visual support for children who require a more staged approach to develop their understanding of language and their expressive skills.
Such children would be those exhibiting a receptive and/or expressive language delay; children who have learning difficulties; and children who are learning English as an additional language.
Sentence Builder contains 8 large colourful background pictures e.g. street; farm; beach, with accompanying sets of smaller pictures.
Clear instructions provide suggestions on using the pictures to develop comprehension and expressive language skills from one key word level e.g. “Show me the car” up to six key word level e.g. “Put the green fish and the blue spade on the sandcastle”.
