Many children enter Foundation Stage with poor language skills, and having worked closely with teaching staff in her local area, it became evident to Helen Rippon the author, that Foundation Stage teachers are often the first professionals to address the child’s problems. Helen designed this screening measure with in collaboration with the school staff.
Although it is always recommended that a child receives a specialist language therapy assessment, this PLP screening measure aims to provide a structured and easy to administer method of obtaining information on a child’s language development, which can be used to determine whether a child is in fact performing at expected levels of development, whether they require monitoring and tracking, or if an immediate referral to the Speech and Language Therapy Service is required.
The attractively illustrated pack includes full clear instructions for use, along with background information, fully photocopiable score sheets and lots of information on how to interpret and score the child’s responses.
Additional and optional sections are also included to obtain information on the child’s functional language ability.
