The Nursery Narrative material provides a complete set of lesson plans that gives both speech and language therapists and teachers/teaching assistants a highly flexible means of developing nursery aged children’s speaking and listening skills through narrative.
The Narrative framework of ‘Who’ ‘Where’ ‘When’ and ‘What happened next’ is introduced through a variety of attractive and highly visual resources, many of which have been updated. The sessions and activities mirror nursery topics including new sessions on Dinosaurs and Superheroes/heroines. Guidance is given regarding handling of ‘the end’ story component with younger children. A new section is included on ‘Incorporating narrative into the school day’.
The pack compliments topic based curriculum activities and includes full instructions and lesson plans, along with extension activities and carry over ideas for use in a whole class approach. Ideal for small group sessions run by teachers and/or therapists.
The Nursery Narrative pack was fully revised in 2016 by the original author Judith Carey. This revision incorporates changes and refinements resulting from ongoing use of this very popular item, and feedback from the narrative training courses Judith has run all over the UK.
Up to date information is included on links to the Early Years Foundation Stage. Very recent research findings are included that confirm the strong evidence base for this approach in addressing the poor language and listening skills of children entering Nursery education.
