Copycat is a DVD that parents and professionals can use independently to facilitate early speech and language acquisition in a non-directive, non-pressurised and fun way. It will be a valuable support for children with speech and language difficulties.
Copycat differs from other nursery rhyme DVD’s and CD’s that are available in that it uses songs and rhymes geared towards developing imitation from its most basic level, (copying gross motor actions), to the more complex stage of copying real words.
The DVD has been divided into two chapters – the first being a sing-a-long for children to watch and join in with – and the second chapter providing information for parents/professionals, discussing how early language develops and also talking about how each song or activity helps. There is also advice on what parents can do to help develop their child’s speech and language development, as well as advice from a nursery school teacher and a parent talking about their own experiences of having a child with speech and language delay. Throughout, the DVD is based on recent evidence on how to best help early language acquisition.

Developed over the past seven years through funding by Newcastle-Under-Lyme NHS PCT and Staffordshire LEA, Languageland provides a complete programme of resources, illustrated in colour throughout, to improve the speech and language skills of children in Primary Education.
Designed to be used by both Speech and Language Therapists and Teachers, it takes two differing approaches: -
For therapists, it provides a detailed training package to support class teachers in adjusting their teaching practice through demonstrated language lessons, and to achieve collaborative practice.
For teachers, it is a complete language resource which provides modified lesson plans for children with speech, language and communication needs that can be incorporated into existing class planning.
Activities can be integrated into Circle Time or timetabled as a ‘stand-alone’ lesson, and target: -
