TalkingAbout ... TalkingAbout ...
TalkingAbout ... is a series designed to develop situational understanding & verbal reasoning skills in children (5yrs+), for use in groups and one-to-one.
The idea originated from Educational Psychologist Marion Nash and has been developed by Helen Rippon.
A large picture shows a situation relevant to the children’s experiences. The children are invited to discuss the situation and are then presented with four smaller pictures, giving suggestions on how to deal with the problem.
They must then decide which are the appropriate and inappropriate responses to the situation.
The pictures are attractive to a wide age and ability range, and should generate lively discussion. These resources are particularly useful for working with children exhibiting semantic/pragmatic difficulties.
